Iran Photos at Albertina Museum in Vienna

A lbertina Museum of Vienna is devoting a retrospective presentation to photographer Alfred Seiland, one of Austria’s first artistic photographers to work exclusively in color.

The exhibit, which will continue until October 7, features five series of works, consisting of around 80 photos. One of the series depicts present-day Iran, Mehr News Agency reported.

Seiland, 66, took photos for his Iran collection during his trip to Iran last year. This is the first time the collection that includes historic locations is being shown to the public.

One of the photos in the series shows Arg-e Bam, located in Bam, a city in Kerman Province. Arg-e Bam was once the largest adobe building in the world but was almost entirely razed to the ground by a 6.6-magnitude earthquake in 2003, which killed around 32,000 people. It is listed by UNESCO as part of the World Heritage Site “Bam and its Cultural Landscape”.

In his photos, Seiland deals with cultural landscapes. “Seiland’s oeuvre revolves around his interests in various cultural spheres ranging from the East to the West Coast of the US and on to the former territory of ancient Rome, to Austria, and to present-day Iran,” Artdaily.com wrote.

The territory of ancient Rome is the focus of Imperium Romanum, one of the five series presented in the current exhibit, which sheds light on tensions between antiquity and the modern era.  / F T  /

“The decree which was issued for humanitarian reasons made us to enroll all foreign national students regardless of their status,” Karimi said, stating the decree increased the number of students by 110,000 and now all students who have a health permit from the Ministry of Health and a statement from the Interior Ministry can attend schools.

“These students are not required to pay any tuition fee charges and we always emphasize the fact that no students should be forced to drop out of school,” Karimi highlighted.

Iran enters Oscars with ‘No Date, No Signature’

Iran contests the 2019 Academy Awards’ foreign film accolade with director Vahid Jalilvand’s ‘No Date, No Signature,’ hoping to hold up the country’s legacy in the competition.

The announcement was made by Iran’s Farabi Cinema Foundation, which picks the Islamic Republic’s submissions to the cinema world’s most competitive playing field.

The already-fêted flick chronicles a morally-right forensic expert’s struggle with feelings of guilt that tells him he might have killed a child in an accident.

Actor Amir Aghaei plays the part, and Hediyeh Tehrani acts as the expert’s assistant. Navid Mohammadzadeh, a decorated young actor, known for shining in hard-boiled and tough roles, plays the part of the dead youngster’s father.

The movie won Best Director and Best Actor Awards at the Venice Horizons sections of the 74th Venice Film Festival.
Some of the movie’s international awards include Best Director and Best Actor Award for Mohammadzadeh at the Venice Horizons sections of the 74th Venice Film Festival, Best Film Award at the Brussels International Film Festival, Best Director at Russia’s Mirror International Film Festival, Audience Award and Best Actor Award at the 18th Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival in Spain, and Grand Prize of 2017 Chicago International Film Festival.

Responding to calls for boycotting the 2019 competition in response to hostile US actions targeting Iran, Farabi Foundation said, “The Academy is a non-governmental institution and belongs to American cineastes.”

It added, “American cinema, in particular the Academy members, in their attitude of mind, alongside the absolute majority of the US press and media, are the main centers for opposition, criticism, and divergence against [President Donald] Trump’s populism and his racist and despotic policies.”

Iran won the Academy Award for the Best Foreign Language Film in 2017 for “The Salesman” and in 2012 for “A Separation,” both directed by acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi. / press tv /
