A senior Iranian lawmaker has underscored the strategic significance of the Strait of Hormuz, describing the vital waterway as the Islamic Republic’s permanent asset that would remain under the control and management of the Iranian nation<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee\u00a0Ebrahim Azizi made the remarks in an interview published on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Azizi warned countries seeking to project power in the chokepoint that Iran would pursue its legal rights in the waterway “with full strength” and “will show no leniency toward anyone” in this matter.<\/p>\n

Referring to the strategic position of the Strait of Hormuz and its role in regional and extra-regional dynamics, the legislator said the waterway constituted a permanent strategic position with an instrumental role in broader geopolitical equations.<\/p>\n

\n

“We have tried during this period to act in line with proper management [tactics], while preserving our authority,” he said.<\/p>\n

As a retaliatory measure, Iran shut down the corridor to enemies and their allies following the launch of the latest bout of American-Israeli aggression targeting the Islamic Republic.<\/p>\n

It began applying far stricter controls after US President Donald Trump announced continuation of an illegal naval blockade of Iranian vessels and ports on April 13.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, Azizi announced in a post on X that Iran has devised a new mechanism to control maritime traffic through a “designated route” in the Strait of Hormuz, which includes charging fees for “the specialized services.” Devising the mechanism, he added, is in line with Iran\u2019s national sovereignty and will guarantee international trade security.<\/p>\n

Adding to his remarks made during the interview, the lawmaker stressed that the Strait of Hormuz was not merely a maritime transit route, but a “strategic achievement” for the Islamic Republic.<\/p>\n

‘Economic, political, military lever’<\/strong><\/p>\n

He described the strait as “a full-fledged economic, political, and military lever” that would forever remain under the management and control of the “courageous and powerful Iranian nation.”<\/p>\n

Iran would continue to defend the legal rights of its people, adding that the control of the strategic waterway constituted part of Iran\u2019s “indisputable rights,” and noting that no foreign power could deprive the Iranian nation of those rights.<\/p>\n

He also warned against hostile actions aimed at restricting Iran\u2019s influence and sovereignty in the region. “Any hostile action or attempt to limit Iran\u2019s influence and sovereignty in the region would be met with a decisive and powerful response,” Azizi said.<\/p>\n

Praise for resistance front’s wartime support<\/strong><\/p>\n

Elsewhere in his remarks, the lawmaker praised the regional Axis of Resistance for its support for the Islamic Republic throughout the 40-day aggression.<\/p>\n

“The resistance front is unified and cohesive, and wherever support was needed, they provided assistance,” he said.<\/p>\n

Azizi stated that the unity displayed by the resistance front during the sensitive period had demonstrated that those supporting “freedom and justice” would not leave Iran isolated.<\/p>\n

He added that such support would remain significant in the history of regional relations.<\/p>\n

‘Iran capable of safeguarding national interests’<\/strong><\/p>\n

The lawmaker also pointed to Iran\u2019s defensive and diplomatic capabilities, saying the Islamic Republic, relying on its domestic strength and the backing of the resistance front, remains capable of safeguarding all of its national interests, including strategic control over the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n

“We will continue our path with strength and authority, and no threat or sanction will weaken the resolve of the Iranian nation,” he said.<\/p>\n
