United World Wrestling (UWW) has named Iranian Greco-Roman wrestler Gholamreza Farrokhi, who won the gold medal at the 2025 World Wrestling Championships, as\u00a0the Breakout Star of the Year<\/strong>\u00a0for his outstanding display\u00a0of grappling skills.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Farrokhi claimed the world title at the 82-kilogram weight category of the prestigious tournament in Zagreb, Croatia, on September 19 after he prevailed over his Georgian opponent Gela Bolkvadze with a decisive 4-0 score in the final round.<\/p>\n

On his way to the title contest, he defeated Li Qingzhe of China 9-0 in Round 32, and then bested Erik Szilv\u00e1ssy of Hungary 8-0 in Round 16.<\/p>\n

He then overcame Ramon Betschart, a representative from Switzerland, 9-0 in quarterfinals, and Croatian rival Karlo Kodri\u0107 7-1 to secure a berth in the final.<\/p>\n

The 2025 World Wrestling Championships took place in the Croatian capital of Zagreb from September 13 to 21.<\/p>\n

Two months later, Farrokhi took a gold medal at the 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG).<\/p>\n

In the final bout of the men\u2019s Greco-Roman 87-kilogram class on November 18, he defeated Islam Yevloyev of Kazakhstan 6-0.<\/p>\n

The 6th Islamic Solidarity Games, known as Riyadh 2025, were an intercontinental multi-sport event organized by the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA), held from November 7 to 21 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n
