Oscar-winning American filmmaker Oliver Stone will be attending the 36th Fajr International Film Festival, the secretary of the festival, Reza Mirkarimi, announced in a press conference on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Stone won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay as the writer of \u201cMidnight Express\u201d. He has also made \u201cComandante\u201d, a 2002 political documentary film, in which he interviews Cuban leader Fidel Castro on a diverse range of topics. He is also the director of the epic four-episode documentary \u201cThe Putin Interviews\u201d that was produced about on Russian leader Vladimir Putin from 2015 to 2017.<\/p>\n

Many other distinguished cineastes have also been invited to attend the Fajr festival.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs announced before, Italian musician Nicola Piovani, Palestinian director Rashid Masharawi, and German cinematographer and producer Thomas Mauch are also among the festival guests this year,\u201d Mirkarimi said.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere he remarked that \u201cfinding friends for the cinema of Iran\u201d is the main goal of the festival.<\/p>\n

\u201cDiscovering the family and religion-themed movies of the world cinema is another goal of the festival,\u201d Mirkarimi added.<\/p>\n

He further noted that the representatives of the FIAPF \u2013 International Federation of Film Producers Associations visited the festival last year to evaluate its international ranking.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey told us the festival is considered to be one of the 15 most important festivals in the world. However, the representatives will be coming to the event this year to evaluate the event,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

The FIAPF based in Paris is an organization composed of 36 member associations from 30 of the leading audiovisual production countries. It is in charge of regulating international film festivals.<\/p>\n

The juries of various categories of the Fajr festival were also announced at the press conference.<\/p>\n

The jury members of the Cinema Salvation, the official competition section of the festival, are Polish director Joanna Kos-Krauze, Macedonian director Milcho Manchevski, Greek filmmaker Dimitri Athanitis, Indian director and producer Adoor Gopalakrishnan, and Italian producer Giovanni Spagnoletti.<\/p>\n

Cinematographer Mahmud Kalari and actress Merila Zarei are the two Iranian members of the jury.<\/p>\n

Fifteen movies from Iran and other countries will compete in this category.<\/p>\n

Among the films are \u201cA Phone Call to Father\u201d by Seric Aprymov from Kazakhstan, \u201cLittle Tito and the Aliens\u201d by Paola Livia Randi from Italy, \u201cLittle White Lie\u201d by Tomas Alzamora from Chile, \u201cNight Accident\u201d by Temirbek Birnazarov from Kyrgyzstan, \u201cBeyond the Clouds\u201d by Majid Majidi from India and \u201cThe Silent Revolution\u201d by Lars Kraume from Germany.<\/p>\n

Pat Collins\u2019 \u201cSong of Granite\u201d from Ireland and Canada, Hanna Slak\u2019s \u201cThe Miner\u201d from Croatia and Slovenia, Milko Lazarov\u2019s \u201cAga\u201d from Germany, France, and Bulgaria, Semih Kaplanoglu\u2019s \u201cGrain\u201d from Turkey, Germany, France, Sweden, and Qatar, and Alexey German\u2019s \u201cDovlatov\u201d from Russia, Poland, and Serbia will also be screened in the section.<\/p>\n
